Eliminating the religious belief exemption helps keep our schools and communities healthy, and our children free from preventable disease.
The bill still gives parents a choice about vaccines. If a parent chooses not to vaccinate for non-medical reasons, their child would be unable to attend public or private schools, nurseries, day cares or development centers. That is a reasonable solution because the choice to not vaccinate leaves all the other children vulnerable to the resurgence of once eradicated disease. Those children have a right to a safe environment.
The right of a parent to practice their religion should not infringe on a child’s right to be healthy.
